The Flash Movie Everything We Know So Far

After months of waiting, we finally got some answers about the Flash movie! A new director and actor have been confirmed, as well as when it’s expected to be released. Let’s take a look at everything we know so far about the Flash movie, from casting to the release date and beyond!

What is the plot?

The film will feature Barry Allen (aka the Flash) and Ezra Miller as his sidekick, The Flash. Further plot details are currently unknown; however, a few details have been released recently. There have been rumors for quite some time that the story would be about time travel. Recently, director Rick Famuyiwa confirmed the rumors in an interview with The Wrap . It was also confirmed that the movie would not be an origin story but rather what happens to Barry after we meet him which makes sense based on Ezra Miller’s casting. Filming began on March 9th, 2016 and the movie is slated for release in 2018.

What characters will appear?

The original TV series featured three main characters, Barry Allen (portrayed by John Wesley Shipp), his wife Iris West Allen (portrayed by Michelle Harrison), and their police colleague Joe West (portrayed by Jesse L. Martin). The success of the series meant that two spin-off shows were created. One starred John Wesley Shipp as Barry Allen, entitled The Flash, and the other starred Amanda Pays as Dr.

Tina McGee and Mark Hamill as the Trickster in a show called The Trickster. There is no indication that these three actors will be appearing in the film despite their strong links with Barry Allen (John Wesley Shipp), but there are strong indications that Ezra Miller will play The Flash from Justice League: Part One.

Who will direct the film?

This question will be easy to answer when the director is announced, which could happen as early as next week. Considering the film’s production timeline (shoot first, script later), that decision may have already been made. ( Update : They’ve hired The Perfect Storm helmer Lawrence Gordon.) It should also give us a clue about the tone they’re going for. A dark, Nolan-esque origin story? Or a lighter, more upbeat romp like Batman Returns?

When does filming start?

Originally slated for a March 2016 start date, The Flash will begin filming sometime in 2015. That’s still the case now; just about three months before the movie opens in theaters, Warner Bros. announced that production on The Fastest Man Alive is scheduled to kick off in Vancouver on April 11th, 2015. Filming will last through October 9th of that year (with some reshoots planned for January 2016), indicating that if all goes according to plan, we’ll get to see The CW’s most super TV show get the silver screen treatment by late next year at the very latest.

Who will direct?: Rick Famuyiwa was the original choice to direct The Flash, but he had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts with another film project. Now it looks like the job has gone back to Seth Grahame-Smith, who previously worked with Ezra Miller and the rest of the cast on The CW series The Flash. Grahame-Smith has only directed one feature film so far — Dark Shadows — but he’s also written books like Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter , so he should be able to handle whatever DC throws his way.

Where will it be filmed?

There are many factors to be considered when deciding where to shoot your movie, as each location has a multitude of pros and cons. The primary factor is the type of budget you have for your film. If you’re working with a big budget, it might make sense to shoot in New Zealand or Australia, since their incentives will make the difference between $1 million or $2 million dollars. But if you have a lower budget, don’t fret—there are still plenty of amazing places all over the United States that can produce high quality work while keeping costs down. Your next question should be how close do you want your shooting location to be?

How long will it be?

Though the specific release date for the DC film adaptation of The Flash is still unknown, a recent statement from Warner Bros. head of creative development Greg Silverman indicates that we should expect it sometime in 2023. That said, the exact date won’t likely be set until after Justice League has been released. In an interview with Collider, Silverman said that The movies will tell each part of the story and we’ll introduce them all. But it’s definitely a full slate… If things go as planned we’ll have one film every year like clockwork with some being bigger sequels and some being smaller ones.

When is its release date?

Well, the bad news is that The Flash movie doesn’t have an official release date yet. There were some rumors circulating in December 2014 that DC’s head honcho, Geoff Johns, mentioned a 2016 release date for the film at a Warner Bros. party. However, that has not been confirmed and the first time we heard it from someone working on the film was from screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith himself when he said there is no release date yet. The good news is that everything else below about The Flash movie does have a solid release date so if you want to get excited you can do so now! Most of the other DC movies are going to be released between 2017 and 2023!
